Little Red Riding Hood
In this extract, Brünnhilde has a silly idea.
Brünnhilde I’ve just had the silliest idea… Which is a first in this show… As we’re in a German village, why don’t we make everyone in the Audience honorary villagers! Now, we don’t have enough beach towels and sun-loungers to make you fully German… But we can teach you some simple German words! Now, let me think…?
A Villager How about “please” and “thank you”?
Villagers (Ad lib) Great idea… Let’s do it…
The Villagers help her out, ad lib.
Brünnhilde Now… “Please” is “bitte”…
The Audience is encouraged to join in.
Brünnhilde And “thank you” is “danke”… Now, let’s have a wee practise… No cheating now!
This is practised ad-lib.
Brünnhilde & Villagers Bitte…
Audience Danke!
Brünnhilde Magic!
Fanfare
Annalise runs in, excitedly.
Brünnhilde (Aside, to the Audience) Here she is… That’s Annalise! Lovely, ain’t she?
Annalise Granny! Prince Abelard’s here! He’s with the Burgomaster…
Brünnhilde (In raptures) Siegfried Von Sauerkraut! Be still my heart!
She sings a few bars of “Sex Bomb”. Pumpernickel runs in, wearing a dirndl and sporting yellow pigtails. If he receives wolf-whistles from the Audience, he reacts accordingly…
Pumpernickel No, I’m not…!
Brünnhilde What the…?
Pumpernickel You told me to dress up. Like a “ghoul” you said… (Aside) I wish she’d make her mind up.
She sighs.
Annalise The Prince is on his way, Pumpernickel.
Pumpernickel You don’t mean Prince Abelard? Who is returning to the land of his birth, after many years away at Heidelberg University, to live in his ancestral castle and is who also about to celebrate his eighteenth birthday?
Annalise Er… I think so. What’s he like?
Pumpernickel Bet he’s not as pretty as me…
